The Setting: Al Ain
Al Ain, located about 160 km from Abu Dhabi and 120 km from Dubai, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 4,000 years of history. The city is famous for its oasis, home to more than 147,000 date palms, and for Jebel Hafeet, a mountain rising nearly 1,300 metres above the desert floor.
Its standout hole is the par-five 10th, measuring 678 yards — the longest par five in the Arabian Gulf. Beyond golf, the venue also offers international-standard facilities for equestrian sports, shooting, rugby and cricket.
Emirati Hopes Rest with Ahmad Skaik
One of the key storylines at the Al Ain Championship is Ahmad Skaik, the UAE’s leading professional golfer. Skaik knows the course well, having competed there multiple times in recent seasons. The course has hosted the Abu Dhabi Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour for the past two years.
Water hazards come into play on most holes, and several fairways run alongside Al Ain’s horse racing track. The course demands accuracy and strong course management.
